Alexander Fischer is the founder and managing member of Dial a Student, a pioneering youth employment platform established in 1988. What began as a personal solution — helping himself and his friends find part-time work when formal employment was out of reach — has evolved into one of South Africa’s most enduring youth job networks.

With a spirit of determination and conviction, Alexander transformed a small Braamfontein office with borrowed furniture into a thriving organisation that continues to create meaningful work opportunities for students and young job seekers. Under his leadership, Dial a Student has expanded into several specialised divisions, including Dial a Stocktaker, which now places over 1,250 stocktakers every second weekend across greater Gauteng.

Operating from its headquarters overlooking the Nelson Mandela Bridge, Alexander remains dedicated to empowering young South Africans to gain experience, earn an income, and build confidence. His guiding philosophy is simple yet powerful — create real work for real people, and watch potential turn into progress.
